Diesel price increased from Rs 255.14 to R s258.43 per liter; new fuel prices come into effect from Dec 1
The federal government has announced an increase in petrol and diesel prices for the next fortnight, starting December 1. According to a notification issued by the Finance Division on Saturday, petrol prices have risen by Rs3.72 per liter, taking the new price from Rs248.38 to Rs252.10 per liter. Similarly, the cost of high-speed diesel (HSD) has gone up by Rs3.29 per liter, increasing from Rs255.14 to Rs258.43 per liter.
Products | Existing Prices w.e.f. | New Prices w.e.f. 01/12/2024 | Increase/Decrease |
High Speed Diesel (HSD) | 255.14 | 258.43 | +3.29 |
MS (Petrol) | 248.38 | 252.10 | +3.72 |
Kerosene (SKO) | 165.60 | 164.98 | -0.62 |
Light Diesel Oil | 152.21 | 151.73 | -0.48 |
The revised rates were calculated by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) based on fluctuations in international market prices. This price adjustment follows the government’s decision in the previous fortnight to maintain existing rates for petrol and diesel due to international trends.
Petrol, which is widely used in motorcycles, rickshaws, and small private vehicles, has a direct impact on the financial well-being of middle- and lower-middle-class households, as it is their primary fuel for daily commuting. In contrast, high-speed diesel plays a critical role in the economy, powering heavy transport vehicles, buses, trains, and agricultural machinery like tractors and tube wells.
Increases in diesel prices often lead to broader inflationary effects, as it raises transportation costs for goods, particularly essential items like vegetables and other food products. This domino effect can strain household budgets across the board, amplifying the cost-of-living challenges for many.
