Alex Consani Becomes First Transgender Woman to Win Model of the Year
Alex Consani, a rising star in the fashion world, has made history as the first transgender woman to be awarded the prestigious title of “Model of the Year” at the 2024 Fashion Awards in London. The 21-year-old model, known for her signature bleached hair and eyebrows, has gained international attention with high-profile runway shows for iconic labels such as Chanel, Stella McCartney, and Victoria’s Secret.
Accepting her award at the Royal Albert Hall, Consani shared a powerful message with the star-studded audience, emphasizing that her victory is a significant step toward progress. “Now, more than ever, it’s crucial to have conversations about how we can truly support and uplift each other in this industry, especially those who have been made to feel invisible,” she said, prompting cheers from the crowd. She continued, “Because change isn’t just possible — it’s necessary.”
Consani’s journey began in 2019 when she signed with IMG Models, an agency that represents some of the biggest names in the fashion world, including Claudia Schiffer, Hailey Bieber, and the Hadid sisters. She initially rose to fame on TikTok, where she now boasts nearly 4 million followers. Her runway debut came in 2021 with Tom Ford, and she has since graced the catwalks for renowned designers like Alexander McQueen and Versace.

In a landmark moment for the fashion industry, Consani and Valentina Sampaio made history in October as the first trans models to walk the runway at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Wearing a Union Jack dress designed by Dilara Findikoglu, Consani used her acceptance speech to pay tribute to the Black transgender women, including fellow models Connie Fleming and Aaron Rose Philip, who paved the way for her success. She also expressed her gratitude to her parents for their unwavering support of her modeling career.
Consani’s win marks a historic moment not only for her career but also for the broader representation of transgender individuals in the fashion industry.
