The government has transferred the response to PTI’s demands to the NA speaker.

ISLAMABAD: The government has formally submitted its response to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) charter of demands to National Assembly (NA) Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, according to sources cited by ARY News on Wednesday.

The government has transferred the response to PTI's demands to the NA speaker.

Rather than outright rejecting PTI’s demand for a judicial commission, the government has suggested an alternative: the creation of a special or parliamentary committee to investigate the incidents of May 9 and November 26. Furthermore, the government has asked PTI to provide a list of missing persons and referred to judicial decisions concerning the release of PTI’s detained leaders, including its founder. The government emphasized that it would not object legally if courts decide to grant bail or release to the detainees.

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and the government have agreed to keep the response confidential unless PTI agrees to resume negotiations. If talks are resumed, the response will be shared with the committee.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been briefed on the entire situation. While the Speaker plans to continue the committee’s work, the government is leaning towards dissolving it after January 31.

The government has also proposed granting parliamentary status to the current committee under the leadership of the NA speaker.

The response details the conditions for forming a judicial commission and outlines the legal and constitutional challenges that may prevent its creation. Sources further revealed that the May 9 incidents are already under judicial review, and legal consultations were sought regarding the establishment of a commission.
