Power Division Addresses Claims Regarding Ban on Dual Electricity Meters

ISLAMABAD: The Power Division has firmly rejected recent social media rumors suggesting a ban on the installation of more than one electricity meter in a single residential property.

Over the past few days, false information has been making rounds online, claiming that households are no longer allowed to install two electricity meters. These misleading reports sparked confusion and concern among the public.

Addressing the issue in an official statement on X (formerly Twitter), the spokesperson for the Ministry of Energy’s Power Division stated that the rumors are completely unfounded. There is no such restriction in place, and the public should not be misled by such claims.

The spokesperson further clarified that applying for a second electricity meter is still permitted under current laws. Any eligible person can apply by following the proper legal process.

Labeling the viral claims as “false, misleading, and a deliberate effort to stir public anxiety,” the Power Division has urged citizens to disregard such misinformation.

The ministry also issued a stern reminder that distributing or promoting false information is a criminal act under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), and individuals involved in such activities may face legal consequences. The Power Division also called on the public to support distribution companies in maintaining transparency and legality in the use of electricity meters, ensuring that all eligible consumers receive fair and timely service.

Previously, certain media sources had claimed that the Ministry of Energy had restricted households from obtaining more than one single-phase electricity meter unless the property was officially divided into separate units.
