Saudi Arabia has recently introduced a unique cola made from the country’s most prized fruit dates. Called Milaf Cola, the drink was developed by Thurath Al-Madina, a subsidiary of the Saudi Public Investment Fund. It was launched at the Riyadh Date Festival by the company’s CEO, Bander Al-Qahtani, and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Agriculture, Abdulrahman Al-Fadley.
What sets Milaf Cola apart is its use of premium dates, which are packed with fiber, antioxidants, and essential minerals like magnesium and potassium. Dates are highly valued in the Middle East for their health benefits. Milaf Cola contains no added sugar, leveraging the natural goodness of dates to provide a healthier alternative to traditional sodas, while still offering a great taste.

The launch of this beverage is part of a broader effort to promote sustainable, locally sourced products, in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. A plan aimed at diversifying the country’s economy, society, and culture. Milaf Cola is made with locally sourced dates and meets international food safety standards, making it an environmentally sustainable choice.
At the festival, attendees were excited to try the new drink, with many praising its unique flavor. Some even described it as “like drinking sunshine, if sunshine tasted like dates and happiness.”
Looking ahead, Thurath Al-Madina plans to expand the Milaf Cola range and introduce the product to both regional and international markets. The company hopes to transform global perceptions of dates, moving them beyond a traditional snack to a trendy and versatile ingredient in food and beverages. “Milaf Cola is just the beginning,” a spokesperson said. “We’re working on a variety of products that will revolutionize how dates are consumed around the world.”
